Marcos Roitman Rosenmann: Disinformation in the Russian-Ukrainian war

Adjustments in 44% of the first circle of the President

Let’s take an example. Spain is a country belonging to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). United States armed forces cohabit in its territory and their governments have been tied to their designs. As part of the agreements, it had Javier Solana, an anti-NATO socialist in the 1980s, as its secretary general. He today holds the position of Commander-in-Chief of the European Union General Staff. On the other hand, Josep Borrell, another anti-NATO in his youth, serves as the representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. In this dynamic, the critical capacity, the sovereignty of Spain in matters of strategic security and defense is mortgaged. There is only one direction in the analysis, a vision of the conflicts and an enemy, the one that NATO and the United States point out as such: in this case, Russia. But it is not only Spain that assumes the hegemonic narrative of NATO and the United States: it is all the allied countries.

The political framework, the images, the stories of special envoys, the press agencies of the Russian-Ukrainian war are subject to tight control by NATO and its commands, both political and military. Inside, a strategy is deployed, public opinion must be manipulated. You have to hide facts, erase history, highlight the cruelty of the invaders and the death of civilians, emphasizing the displaced, the crying of disoriented women and children with lost looks. Everything serves to justify some and disqualify others. In this case, Vladimir Putin, evil incarnate, is a psychopath, a despicable being, eager for blood and death. In front of him he has a good man, a democrat, defender of freedoms, a hero of his country who calls to resist, take up arms and protect himself from the invader. Evil and good, confronted. Europe, the West and NATO identify with the good, they take sides. They impose sanctions, call for a boycott of sporting events, cry not to the war and they ask for solidarity under the watchful eye of NATO, whose role is presented as a mediator, not as part of the war created by its strategists. Everything is not enough to fight alongside Ukraine and turn it into a victim of Russian imperialism, which seeks to redeem the cold War. The fear of a Russian threat is put on the table. The enemy has risen from the ashes of him.

Neither too much nor too little. Neither Putin is a devil nor Zelensky a saint. Ukraine has been used by the West for its spurious interests: to alter the balance of power in the region. What is at stake goes beyond Ukraine and exposes the farce of the West: the cost in human lives is irrelevant, they are Russians and Ukrainians. Neither Spanish nor German nor British, French or Belgian, nor American. The Joe Biden administration has no problem throwing Europe onto the battlefield. It is the troupe that puts on its face, while Biden covers his shame. Bravado whose consequences are paid, as usual, by the peoples and the popular classes, while the technological military financial complex rubs its hands. More funds for weapons and commissions that will go to the usual.

Western countries and the United States have let Ukraine bleed to death. They have financed neo-fascist groups, they have sponsored a coup in 2014, they have broken agreements to grant autonomy to the Russian-speaking regions, they have massacred their population. In five years, the figures speak of 15,000 murdered at the hands of the neo-fascist shock forces and the Ukrainian army. Power is in the hands of an unscrupulous plutocracy. Hunger, misery and inequality have increased exponentially. NATO has supplied the shock forces with weapons and, incidentally, Ukraine has become a training and paramilitary training territory for the extreme right-wing groups of the European Union. But what has been said has disappeared from political analysis. In this war, as in all, where we are part of one of the sides, they seek to misinform, manipulate, lie and put all the means of propaganda at the service of intelligence disinformation in the hands of the war chiefs. Journalists, politicians, academics, psychologists, soldiers, specialists in international relations and publicists are a pineapple. There are no cracks in the speech. History does not appear in this logic, it fades into proclamations and blocking information that questions the official discourse. Censorship accompanied by pressure, wild emotions and disqualifications. There is no room to reflect, to think and doubt those who promote war.

During these days, it is possible to know that Ukraine has been invaded. However, the explanation is not found in the fact, a particularly evident truth; it is found in the course of events that have a long history, decades. For this reason, one cannot fall into Manichaeism. The time of war must be slowed down. The events engineered by NATO, the United States and their European allies have led to a war that will have enormous consequences. To reverse the drift, we must listen to Russia’s peace proposals. The same ones that were not taken into account and could have prevented the war. Any attempt to ignore this reality is an act of hypocrisy.
