Madrid Spain.- Cuban-American Senator Marco Rubio denounced this Tuesday the situation of Andy García Lorenzo, political prisoner on July 11, 2021 (11J) in Santa Clara.
“Andy García Lorenzo continues to be a victim of the inhumane treatment of the criminal dictatorship of Castro and Díaz-Canel while he remains arbitrarily detained on the island,” Marco Rubio said on the social network Twitter.
“Garcia Lorenzo’s only crime was having the courage to protest against a failed system on 11J”, added the senator.

Last January Marco Rubio had linked a tweet to a publication by Rosa María Payá, in which the opponent made a call for support for Andy García.
In his comment, Rubio denounced: “For the criminal dictatorship of Castro and Díaz-Canel, the brave Cubans who took to the streets of Cuba crying out for freedom and demanding the end of the tyranny, are criminals.”
Rubio’s recent statements come after it emerged on Tuesday that the relatives of García Lorenzo have not heard from the 24-year-old for weeks.
“A lot of people have been asking me about my brother Andy. We really don’t know anything about him since the last visit several weeks ago, ”reported his sister Roxana García Lorenzo.
Through Facebook, the activist, who has continued to denounce her brother’s situation, pointed out that the authorities are trying to eliminate all communication with him to prevent the family from denouncing and exposing the human rights violations committed against him.
Andy García was violently arrested on July 11, 2021 and sentenced to four years in prison for his participation in the anti-government protests that day.
In May 2022 it was released for five days, and returned to prison, this time to a labor camp for inmates. The young man has refused to work and the prison authorities keep him isolated from the rest of the inmates.
