SANTO DOMINGO.- Senator Marco Rubio, nominated by President-elect Donald Trump as Secretary of State of the United States, cited the Dominican Republic this Monday among the countries that are doing positive things.
In the confirmation hearing called by the Senate and responding to his colleague Tim Kaine about those countries in the region that he considered were right and what they would do as a nation to help them, Rubio pointed out the cases of Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Argentina.
Regarding the Dominican Republic, he said that this country faces challenges due to the instability that exists in Haiti and that it is one of the nations that emerged the fastest from Covid-19. He also mentioned the rapid recovery of tourism.
“When I think about the Dominican Republic, they face substantial challenges due to the instability in Haiti. This is also one of the countries that emerged most quickly from Covid-19 and tourism returned quickly. They have done positive things,” he expressed.
When referring to Ecuador, he highlighted that “those who were there before did not want anything to do with us” and that currently, they were reaping bad results with armed gangs that crossed from Colombia. From Argentina and Javier Milei, its president, said that he is an experienced economist and that he is taking the right steps to lift that country’s economy.
