United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused the Maduro administration of openly collaborating with terrorist and criminal groups such as the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), organizations that represent “a threat” to the region.
During a press conference held this Friday the 19th, the North American official referred to the actions that his government has undertaken in the Caribbean and the Pacific to combat drug trafficking.
“The Maduro regime is illegitimate and its cooperation with terrorist groups in our region, including its own terrorist activities, are a threat to the national security of the United States.”
Rubio highlighted that in anti-drug operations they have had the support of countries such as Mexico, Panama, even Colombia, among many others in the region. However, in the case of Venezuela this has not been the case.
The Maduro administration, Rubió assured, cooperates with the Colombian guerrilla to send drugs to the United States and the Caribbean. In this sense, he noted that his country seeks the security of the hemisphere.

When asked about the blockade of sanctioned oil tankers, he pointed out that nothing will prevent them from applying the laws of the United States because the interest is the protection of its citizens.
Rubio dismissed the call for help that Nicolás Maduro asked the Colombian military in the face of threats from the United States. “We don’t see it as something serious in terms of involving the Colombian military forces.”
Regarding the call between Trump and Maduro, Rubio did not want to comment on the US president’s conversations, but noted that Trump is willing to talk to anyone and that does not mean that he is making concessions.
In a telephone interview with NBCNews Published this Friday, December 19, Donald Trump affirmed that he does not rule out the possibility of a war with Venezuela and assured that Maduro knows what he wants.
