Marches on May Day will be peaceful: Workers Centrals

The Strike Committee announced that everything is ready for the peaceful demonstration that will take place this Sunday in the country, within the framework of International Labor Day.

The labor unions confirmed that the marches in the capital cities will be peaceful, by pointing out that they will be family gatherings to go out to walk the streets nationwide.

“This May 1st, the National Unemployment Committee has decided to concentrate all efforts so that large peaceful mobilizations with the aim of having a commemoration of this national struggle and of the workers of the world”, indicated Francisco Maltés.

He indicated that the scheduled mobilizations are agreed in the morning in all cities nationwide. “For May Day We ratify the call to carry out large mobilizations throughout the national territory, preferably in the morning hours, peaceful and full of color and cultural and artistic expressions,” he said.

Said they will come out with their banners to reject the high cost of living and loss of purchasing power of workers.

“We are going out to reject violence and the violation of human rights and the policy of penalization and criminalization of social protest (arbitrary arrests, 37 massacres and 52 social leaders assassinated this year)”, he stressed.

The union leader pointed out that in Bogotá the demonstration will leave from the National Park at 9 am with the aim of reaching the Plaza de Bolívar.

“In these meetings of the cities, a national proclamation will be read where the workers’ and pensioners’ unions They will demand better working conditions for Colombians.

For its part, the president of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), Percy Oyola stated that the workers have many reasons to mobilize peacefully.
