Within days of the arrival of a High Level Commission of the Organization of American States (OAS) to Peru To address the political crisis, this Saturday, November 5, there will be a national and open-call march against political entrapment and for the search for a way out with new general elections.
The meeting point will be Naval Heroes Walkin the center of Lima, starting at 2:00 in the afternoon.
Lucas Ghersi, member of the organizing committee, said that the call is open. Peruvians of all political persuasions, independents, young people will be welcome. He said, at the same time, that many unions will participate, among them he mentioned the merchants of Gamarra, the Wholesale Fruit Market and the Confederation of Workers of Peru.
“The call is being made at the national level, all the important cities of the country are going to have a march. The frustration of all Peruvians who are already fed up with the political crisis, the political entrapment, is going to be manifested. Congress has a perverse incentive: if I do nothing, then there is no early election, no vacancy, no constitutional accusation… the status quo is maintained, I continue to receive my salary, nothing happened”, Ghersi questioned.
He added that the message they will give on the day of the mobilization is that it is not acceptable to do nothing and that it is necessary to find a way out of the political crisis. Otherwise, he considered, democracy and the rule of law can end.
“What is sought is that they all leave. This president has to fall, the vice president must fall and then a new general election is called, that is the only clean way out. It is unfeasible to keep Dina Boluarte as president. It is unfeasible that there be an election only for the president of Congress. All of that is unfeasible. The way out is resignation, dismissal, vacancy of Pedro Castillo and Dina Boluarte and that there be new general elections”, insisted Lucas Ghersi.
The organizing committee of this mobilization is made up of former GEIN member José Luis Gil, Vice Admiral (re) Francisco Calixto, journalist Claudia Toro, representative of victims of armed violence Gisela Sánchez and Lucas Ghersi himself.
For his part, Jorge del Castillo confirmed the participation of Apra in this march.
“The Apra board has agreed to participate and we will be there with pleasure, we will leave Alfonso Ugarte towards the Paseo de los Héroes Navales”declared the former congressman.
He argued that this march becomes a popular presence on the eve of the arrival of the OAS mission, the same one that, as he estimated, should take note of this citizen act.
He also specified the non-binding nature of said mission, so that the Judiciary, the Public Ministry and Congress do not have to accept what the OAS says, but they do have to treat it with respect and consideration because it is a high-level commission.
“Most of them are foreign ministers and vice foreign ministers; therefore, it is pertinent to attend to them accordingly. Civil society has to be heard by the OAS. In addition, this mission comes to listen, it does not come to make a decision”, Jorge del Castillo scored.
