On behalf of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon participated yesterday in the first day of activities of the G-20 Leaders Summit, which takes place in Bali, Indonesia.
In the first work session, called Food and Energy Security, the Secretary of Foreign Relations denounced that the war in Ukraine has impacted the food and energy security of developing countries and caused price rises internationally, according to a statement.
For this reason, Ebrard urged the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, as well as the Group of Twenty (G-20) to immediately promote a dialogue that allows the cessation of hostilities.
Mexico will participate in any effort that leads to that result and we call on our colleagues from the Russian Federation and Ukraine, on behalf of the whole world and our country, so that they can immediately start talks that lead to peace.
said.
Ebrard spoke in favor of permanently including the African Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) in the G-20 Summit.
In terms of energy security, he recalled the announcement made last week by Mexico, within the framework of COP27, to increase the national emission reduction goals from 22 percent to 35 percent in 2030, doubling the domestic production capacity of clean energy in eight years.
He called on the members of the G20, a group that brings together the world’s largest economies, to redouble their efforts with a view to mobilizing financial resources for developing countries, for at least 100 billion dollars a year until 2025, to combat change climate change and guarantee energy security.
I know that this could imply reforms to the World Bank, to the Inter-American Development Bank, various formulas, to the International Monetary Fund, but, once again, the means that we must use for the very high end of guaranteeing global energy security seem to be within our reach. and we would see no reason not to
