Like a patient who tragically continues to die while waiting for someone to take the leadership that defines his fate, this is how the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (Cciap) described the situation of the Caja’s Disability, Old Age and Death (IVM) program. of Social Security (CSS), in which all Panamanians are represented.
For the president of the union, Marcela Galindo, this reality that the entity lives today does not come from now but from 15 years ago, due to the fact that the last three governments failed to make transcendental decisions that were needed to solve the problem of the CSS, but “the end of the road is already reached”.
He stressed that a lot of teaching must be done in the population so that people understand the situation we are in and that this is not an issue that the government can solve alone, “it is a problem that falls on each of us personally “.
“This government has to clearly define the map or the steps that we are going to follow to reach a solution that is sustainable over time, and although they cannot begin to take those first steps to implement the plan, but at least leave the plan done; we have to build together and whether the first actions are taken at the end of this government or at the beginning of the other, but at least we have already traveled some of the way we need to implement these structural reforms that requires CSS,” he explained.
From Galindo’s point of view, “I believe that the Social Security Fund requires a complete body X-ray in every sense of the word, both for the analysis of the administrative part and of the pension programs and the administration of the disease, both in terms of health service provision. I think we have to do a very critical analysis, evaluate appointments and people”.
