Candidate Carlos Brandão (PSB) was re-elected in the first round of elections, on October 30th.
With 98.84% of the polls counted, Brandão obtained 51.16% of the electorate’s preference. Lahesio Bonfim came in second with 24.95%.
At age 64, Carlos Brandão is the current governor and is seeking re-election. Born in Colinas (MA), Brandão, who is a veterinarian, businessman, has been in charge of Palácio dos Leões since April this year. Brandão has also been elected federal deputy for two terms and held the position of Assistant Secretary of State for the Environment. The vice governor on the ticket will be university professor Felipe Camarão (PT), 40 years old.
