Two sisters of Diego Armando MaradonaRita Mabel and Claudia Norma Maradona, were prosecuted and seized this Thursday by the crime of fraudulent administration of the commercial brand that bears the name of the Argentine star of football. The Maradona sisters were processed without pretrial detention and seized for an amount of 2,000 million pesos (1,337 million dollars) in a cause initiated after the complaint of two of the footballer’s daughters, Dalma and Gianinna Maradona.
The ruling, to which Efe had access, also reaches Matías Morla, a lawyer from Maradona until his death, on November 25, 2020, and his assistant Maximiliano Pomargo, among others. The dispute revolves around the transfer of the usufruct of the commercial brand ‘Diego Maradona’ to the Sattvica SA company, constituted by Morla, who had broad powers of administration and disposition on the assets of the star, in society with Rita Mabel and Claudia Norma Maradona.
Justice attributed to the defendants “having defrauded the interests of the legitimate heirs of Diego Armando Maradona” when performing maneuvers “linked to the management, disposition and assets of the Sattvic SA Society.” The Maradona trademark includes, among other things, commercial, image and intellectual property rights associated with Diego Armando Maradona, including products such as sports clothing, perfumes and even audiovisual material.
“It is out of discussion that neither Morla nor its partners in Sattvica were constituted as heirs or legatees, nor does Diego Armando Maradona’s sisters,” concluded the ruling that the processing and seizure of the accused concluded. Maradona’s trademark was the result of controversy during the trial – after annulled – for the death of the footballer, in which seven health workers were accused of simple homicide with eventual intent.
