The MDB candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Simone Tebet, announced today (2) the name of Senator Mara Gabrilli (PSDB) as her deputy for the 2022 elections. The announcement was made at the PSDB State Directory in São Paulo, in a ceremony broadcast on Twitter by the emedebista candidate. The candidacy was launched after a meeting between Simone Tebet and Mara Gabrilli with the presidents of the three parties of the political alliance – Baleia Rossi (MDB), Bruno Araújo (PSDB), Roberto Freire (Citizenship) – and Senator Tasso Jereissati (PSDB) , which was one of those counted for the plate.
During the speech, Simone Tebet said that Mara Gabrilli “will not be a supporting deputy” and, when promising “an affective government”, added that the toucan will play a relevant role in achieving this objective. Also in a speech, Gabrilli said that she will act “for social justice and for everyone to have opportunities”, including people with disabilities, and that she will dedicate herself to “the fight against hunger and against racism”. “A city, a state, a country that is good for a person with a disability is wonderful for the entire population. The confirmation of Tebet as candidate for the MDB was on the 27th of July, when the name of who would be deputy on the ticket had not yet been defined. The ticket is supported by the PSDB-Cidadania party federation.

Simone Tebet is 52 years old. Born in Três Lagoas (MS), she has a law degree and began her political career in 2003 as a state deputy. From 2005 to 2010, she was mayor of her hometown for two terms. She left office to be deputy governor of Mato Grosso do Sul. She is the daughter of former Senate President Ramez Tebet, who died in 2006. From 2013 to 2014, she was Secretary of Government until, in 2015, she was sworn in as a senator. Tebet gained national projection especially after the strong performance in the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of the Pandemic of the Senate, last year.
Senator for the PSDB of São Paulo, Mara Gabrilli, 53, is a publicist and psychologist. She was a councilor of the São Paulo capital from 2007 and 2010, after having been municipal secretary for Persons with Disabilities, from 2005 and 2007. She was a federal deputy from 2011 and 2015, being elected again in 2015 for a term until 2019. In 1994, Mara Gabrilli suffered a car accident that left her a quadriplegic. It took five months of hospitalization.
