The Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations of Congress refused to reconsider the vote that approved the report that recommended sending the complaint made against the former president to the file Manuel Merino.
The decision was made by 6 votes in favor and 6 against. The complaint filed against Merino de Lama was for his alleged responsibility for the death of Inti Sotelo and Bryan Pintado in November 2020. The complaint also included former ministers Ántero Flores Aráoz and Gastón Rodríguez.
The request for reconsideration was presented by the legislator Edgar Reymundo (Democratic Change), regarding the document prepared by the delegated congressman of the case, Alejandro Cavero (Avanza País), which protected Merino against the complaint.
As recalled, the subcommittee filed, with the casting vote of its president, the complaint against Merino de Lama, former Prime Minister Ántero Flores-Aráoz and former Minister of the Interior Gastón Rodríguez, as Alejandro Cavero stated in his report.
The vote was held on June 17, after Cavero’s presentation and a debate in which those who questioned the filing of the complaint asked that the witnesses and relatives of the victims be heard.
