The spokeswoman for Cambio Democrático, Ruth Luqueanticipated that a new constitutional complaint against the former de facto president Manuel Merino in the event that the current accusation is shelved, as recommended in the questionable report by the parliamentarian of Avanza País Alejandro Cavero.
Speaking to the press outside the Congress, Luque Ibarra considered Cavero’s report “inadmissible” and recalled that the objective of a constitutional accusation is “to enable whether or not a high official can be investigated. It is not intended to condemn or say what evidence is valid or not.
“If its filing is ratified in the subcommission, let’s say in an eventuality, we could in a new legislative period and with new evidence present a constitutional complaint. That is an issue that we are evaluating. We understand that the investigation has been advancing”, said the spokeswoman for Cambio Democrático.

Ruth Luque also mentioned that, according to the victims’ lawyer, Alejandro Cavero would have incurred in the crime of cover-up if it was later “confirmed that there are responsibilities” of Manuel Merino, the former premier Antero Flórez-Aráoz and the former Minister of the Interior Gaston Rodriguez.
“The crime of concealment is the act by which a person prevents or hinders. The fact that in this case we have an ongoing investigation directed by the Public Ministry, as a congressman, I cannot go any further. I cannot say what tests are worth or are not worth,” he added.
Father of Bryan Pintado: “Impunity is being sought”
Oscar Pintado, father of Bryan Pintado, reiterated his rejection of Congressman Alejandro Cavero’s report. He maintained that this document is “totally aimed at seeking impunity towards those who are being investigated, at former President Merino who had a ‘great government’ for five days where there was only blood, death and hundreds of injuries.”
