In an interview with the Cuban journalist living in Miami Mario J. Pentonsaid that his source, whom he cannot name, “is very reliable” and that the information “is corroborated.”
“What am I going to say, I don’t think my brother was capable, really,” declared the former state television presenter and lawyer by training. Pentón comments on his revelations: “The Ordering Task was sent by the CIA to destroy Cuba, and one already knows where the thread of all this goes.” And Vicky Gil adds: “Always blame the United States for all the failure of a failed system, corrupt to the core and that has been capable of completely and absolutely destroying an entire country.”
Gil’s sister reiterated that the former Minister of Economy “flatly denies all the facts linked to espionage” and that, as confirmed to this newspaper by a source close to the case, the defense carried out by the lawyer Abel Solá López It was “brilliant.” This same informant said this Saturday 14ymedio who are waiting for Gil’s next trial, for more than a dozen crimes such as embezzlement, tax evasion, influence peddling and money laundering, and in which they are implicated other senior officials of the regimetakes place next Wednesday.

“In a country where the entire leadership is corrupt, how are you going to judge an official for corruption, for money laundering, for influence peddling? The former presenter of De la Gran Escena on Cuban Television estimates that “the least guilty of everything that is happening with my brother is President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez”, because he was unaware, she asserts, of the case that was being built against Gil, who was his right-hand man. And he mentions, in this regard, the information about the prime minister that his source shared with him: on February 1, 2024, Marrero called Gil, and told him that “his work as Minister of Economy and Planning has not borne the expected results, that it has been a bad job and that therefore the next day he will be dismissed and that he has to begin delivering all the documentation related to the ministry.”
The next day, Vicky continues, it was reported that the then minister had been dismissed. “What is Miguel Díaz-Canel doing? Congratulate my brother for his good work,” he says regarding the tweet that the president published in X on February 6, Gil’s birthday. On the other hand, his story continues, the already dismissed minister agrees to go to Marrero’s office to hand over the portfolio. “When my brother gets there with all the documentation, he finds that along with Manuel Marrero Cruz there are two Cuban State Security officers,” who inform him that “he is under investigation.”
From that moment on, they take him and his wife, Gina María González García, “to one of these famous houses that the Ministry of the Interior has that are wonderful, that I know them, that are in Nuevo Vedado, in Miramar….” How do you know them, Vicky? Pentón then asks him. “I know two in Nuevo Vedado, because I was an agent for a short time, because I really looked very bad because I was not able to get someone out,” she confesses, specifying that she was captured to monitor the trafficking of works of art on the Island.

To Pentón’s question about whether the prime minister is the one behind her brother’s arrest, María Victoria Gil reaffirms: “Yes, Marrero is the person in front of and behind this entire process against Alejandro Gil,” which she considers “a cruelty.” The corruption crimes that are attributed to the former head of the Economy, he added, “Marrero has committed five more times.”
The confrontation between Gil – who comes from the civilian world – and Marrero – colonel – evidences a possible operation mounted by the Business Administration Group (Gaesa), which would thus hold the former minister responsible for having affected his businesses and contributed to the general collapse of the economy with the Ordering Task, the monetary and exchange unification process that began on January 1, 2021.
For Vicky, it may come from another place: “Perhaps my brother wanted to put a stop to the waste and how shameless and disloyal Marrero is.” We know, says the former presenter without providing more details, “what world it operates in and how corrupt it is.” And he adds: “What more proof of corruption and how little the Cuban Government cares about the people of Cuba than when you put them all together it does not close the button on any of their epaulettes?”
