MIAMI, United States. — The Prime Minister of the Cuban regime, Manuel Marrero Cruz, arrived in Russia today as part of a official visit which will include a meeting with the ruler of that country, Vladimir Putin.
A official note published by official Cuban media indicates that Marrero’s tour of Russia aims to “continue consolidating a friendship that has transcended all the challenges of history.”
The senior Castro leader was received at the Moscow-Vnúkovo International Airport by Julio Garmendía Peña, Cuban ambassador to Russia.
“This is the first visit to Russia by Marrero Cruz as Prime Minister, which takes place in the context of expanding and consolidating ties, particularly economic and commercial ones,” the official information states.
Marrero Cruz heads a delegation from the island’s regime that also includes Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, as well as the Ministers of Public Health, Tourism, Energy and Mines and Transportation, as well as the Minister-President of the Central Bank of Cuba and the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The delegation of the Cuban regime will be in the Eurasian nation until June 17. During that time they will participate in the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, based in Sochi, to later complete a program in Moscow and, later, attend the International Economic Forum in Saint Petersburg.
During his visit, Manuel Marrero is expected to meet not only Putin, but also other Russian government officials and business leaders.
Marrero’s tour of the Eurasian giant responds to those carried out by senior officials and businessmen from that country who have visited Havana in recent weeks.
The Cuban and Russian regimes have strengthened their geostrategic alliance over the past year. Havana has internationally defended the invasion of Ukraine, to which Moscow has responded by increasing investment and aid to the Caribbean country, which is suffering its worst economic crisis in recent decades.
