The senator for the Cabildo Abierto party, Guido Manini Ríos, published on his Twitter account against euthanasia, in the midst of the discussion about the possible decriminalization of this human right that has already advanced in other countries.

“In Nazi Germany, German doctors carried out the ‘euthanasia’ program, the systematic killing of those they deemed ‘undeserving of life,'” the far-right senator wrote. “The victims included the mentally ill and the physically handicapped…” he added.

Along with this sort of comparison, he shared an opinion article signed by Jacinto W. Pangallo and published in the weekly The morningfounded by his grandfather Pedro Manini Ríos, in which a series of diatribes against euthanasia are made.

“An issue of such importance linked to the life and health and safety of people, has been handled in recent months, both by its promoters and by some media with extreme lightness. Is the existence of an eventual parliamentary majority enough to pass a law of this magnitude?” questions Pangallo.

familiar position

The lobbying senator has already made his position transparent regarding euthanasia, which in his opinion is not a right but an “monstrosity.”

At the beginning of May, he had said in Senators that “those who vote for this are complicit in one of the most immoral things that this Parliament is going to vote on”, and added: “Clearly in these aspects we are going back by leaps and bounds (because it is) a true monstrosity”.

In addition, he understands the legislation in an economic key and has come to affirm that it is “a saving” for health providers.

For the former soldier, there may be coercion by third parties on patients: “there are families in which an elderly person or a sick person means a burden, and they may tend to convince him to ask for that if he is legally authorized. I reason it from that angle and that is why I do not agree”.

The bill for the decriminalization of euthanasia was presented on March 11, 2022 by Colorado deputies Ope Pasquet (text editor), Felipe Schipani, María Eugenia Roselló, Laura Baccino and Walter Cervini.
