The senator of the ultra-conservative party, Guido Manini Ríos, assured that in public and private schools in Uruguay children are induced “to adopt behaviors typical of the opposite sex, while teaching them that sexuality is a social construction, so they are completely free to choose the sex they want, without being tied to what their biology indicates”.
The legislator often returns again and again to the issue of “gender ideology”, a concept invented by religious and politically conservative movements to discredit movements that advocate sexual freedom, gender equality and the rights of sexually diverse people .
Manini Ríos urged the educational authorities to prevent the “innocent” from being “used and affected” by the “sick application of an ideology.”
The parliamentarian and ex-soldier added that contemporary comprehensive sex education generates “an identity confusion” that must be neutralized by the family presence to prevent their psyche from being affected, “causing disorders that often end up destroying the person as such.”
For him, this constitutes “a clear violation of secularism and family rights” because minors are invited to participate in “games of the other sex.”
