Manchester City beat Southampton (4-1) to advance to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where Crystal Palace will also be present after beating Everton (4-0) this Sunday.
Less dominant than usual in his last games, Manchester City had to wait until the last minutes of the match to close their place in the semi-finals.
Southampton were able to go ahead with a shot at the post by Adam Armstrong, but seconds later Raheem Sterling did not spare his chance and advanced to the Citizens (minute 12, 1-0). Before the break, an unfortunate deflection by Aymeric Laporte towards his goal put the tables (45+1, 1-1).
Kevin de Bruyne put City ahead from a penalty (62, 2-1) but the ‘Saints’ were able to tie the game again on an occasion missed by Che Adams. Just as it happened in the action of the first goal, City did not forgive on the counterattack and Phil Foden, who had just entered the field, scored the third goal (75, 3-1). His teammate Riyad Mahrez closed the scoring a few minutes later (78, 4-1).
In the other quarter-final matchup between Premier League teams, the ‘Eagles’ were clearly imposed on Everton with goals from Ivorian Marc Guéhi (25) and Wilfried Zaha (79), from Frenchman Jean-Philippe Mateta (41) and Will Hughes (87).
