Students from the Meritorious National School of Teachers (BENM) denounced that, despite the agreement with the educational authorities that yesterday there would be a negotiation table to address 10 missing demands, “they arrived with nothing and laughing at what we requested as extra points to the request list. They assured that we disrespected everything achieved after accusing us of reacting from emotions.”
Likewise, they rejected that the progress achieved is the sole result of the disposition of the authorities, when “it has been an achievement of the student movement, because it was not a concession that they gave us.”
They highlighted that the delivery of the campus this December 1 is an idea that has not yet “been discussed, much less approved by the student assembly,” so no agreement has been reached to resume activities.
Spokesmen for the student movement indicated that the general director of Normal Education and Teaching Update, Eugenio Aurelio López, assured that on instructions from the head of the Federal Educational Authority of Mexico City, Luciano Concheiro, “he cannot sign anything that was not included in the petition document.”
They added that the director of the BENM, Roberto Renato Jiménez, stated that the student community “involves an attitude of confrontation, when we should adhere to a ‘culture of peace’.”
UPN students appeal to the Legislature
Meanwhile, students from the National Pedagogical University (UPN) blocked access to the Chamber of Deputies and Eduardo Molina Avenue to demand that a commission of legislators attend to them, almost a month after a work stoppage broke out.
The dissatisfied young people were received by a group of deputies, to whom they requested an appointment with the members of the Education Commission to address the situation facing the university after the ignorance, on the part of the student community, of its rector Rosa María Torres Hernández.
