Manager of Petroperú, APP activist, will respond in Congress for ecocide in Talara

Oscar Vera

He will no longer be able to evade his responsibility, as he did three days ago. The general manager of Petroperú, Óscar Vera Gargurevich, who is a member of César Acuña’s party, APP, will answer everything about what happened in the ecocide that occurred in Talara, Piura, after a hydrocarbon leak occurred that contaminated the sea and the environment of that region.

Three days ago, Perú21 published a report in which it reported that Vera experienced moments of tension in the Lobitos district, in Talara, when she had to hastily leave a meeting with residents and local authorities.

This, because the attendees, outraged by the oil spill that has affected five beaches in the area, rebuked him, demanding immediate responses.

In the midst of the chaos, Vera was hit by objects stained with what appeared to be oil, staining part of his clothing, as recorded in videos. The police intervened to escort him and prevent the situation from escalating. He had to flee the area.

Last Friday, Perú21 confirmed that the manager of Petroperú participated, together with an official from that state entity, in a work meeting, via zoom, organized by the Fuerza Popular congressman, Eduardo Castillo.

In that virtual work meeting, the official said that the ecocide that occurred in Talara, caused by the state oil company, could not be compared with the spill caused by Repsol, in January 2022.

That is, he wanted to minimize the Talara ecocide.

Due to this, Congressman Castillo has sent a document to the president of the Energy Commission, Paul Gutiérrez, to call an extraordinary session, and extend the invitation to the general manager of Petroperú, Óscar Vera Gargurevich, and explain everything about what happened in the Talara Sea.

Summons the manager of Petroperú to the Energy and Mines Commission.

Silent left and no megabytes on the cell phone

Perú21 revealed, last Friday, the reaction that congressmen from the majority of the left-wing parties and some politicians of that ideological line had, through their social networks, when the oil spill caused by Repsol occurred on January 15. of 2022 in Ventanilla, Callao.

Their indignation was diametrically different from the behavior they have been having these days with the ecocide caused by the state-owned company Petroperú on December 20 in Talara, Piura.

The silence of this sector of the left does not go unnoticed in the face of a tragedy of this magnitude. Perú21 revealed, through the posts they wrote in 2022 on their X accounts, the harsh criticism they made against Repsol at that time. Today, when a similar tragedy occurs, the majority maintains a strange silence.

This, despite the fact that this crude oil spill that occurred in the Piuran sea has caused, as stated by the mayor of Talara, Sigifredo Zárate, more than 400 affected families.

In January 2022, one of the first legislators who took out her megaphone to protest – through social networks – when the crude oil was spilled in Ventanilla was legislator Sigrid Bazán (see posts), who was elected wearing the T-shirt of the Together for Peru (JPP) party and today he is in the ranks of the Popular Democratic Bloc (BDP) bench, similar to Verónika Mendoza, leader of the Nuevo party Peru.

CONNECTION OF NARVÁEZ AND THE LEFT OF JPP

On January 20 of that year, five days after the events occurred, Bazán harshly criticized the Spanish oil company on his X account: “Repsol cannot wash its hands and unfortunately is not responding to this ecological catastrophe.”

Five days later, he asked for economic compensation for the victims, especially for the fishermen.

“Beyond receiving a severe fine, Repsol must compensate each and every one of the fishermen who today do not know when they will return to work,” he wrote.

However, in this tragedy that occurred in the Piuran sea, the Mendoza legislator, who today is a member of the Nuevo Perú party, remained silent until Friday, the date of publication of our note.

Is it perhaps because the president of Petroperú, Alejandro Narváez, is a member of the Together for Peru (JPP) party, the political group with which she was elected to occupy her seat in the Legislature?

Over the course of the following hours, he had no other choice but to publish on his X account a post of indignation about what happened in Talara, but he did not make the same media noise that he made against Repsol.

The same late action following the tragedy was carried out by his party, Nuevo Perú, led by Verónika Mendoza, who published a post two days ago with the headline “Petroperú take charge!”

However, not a word to summon Vera or Narváez to Congress so that they can come forward and explain about this new ecocide in our sea.
