A man who in April 2021 threatened to kill Luis Lacalle Pou was sent to prison for a crime that he allegedly committed in 2019 in the Peñarol neighborhoodreported the Ministry of the Interior.
According to the portfolio in a statement, the murder for which this 34-year-old man was now arrested occurred on February 24, 2019. That day was murdered a 43-year-old person with a criminal record in Volta and Alexandre Dumasin the Peñarol neighborhood.
The crime had remained unclear until in 2021 the Complex Homicide Department of the Complex Facts Department began to investigate it. After ordering new analyzes, for example the 911 call the night of the crime, the statement from relatives, the review of cell phones and social networks, as well as the testimony of reserved witnesses, the police officers found the 34-year-old man.
It turned out that this person, in addition to having a criminal record and having threatened the victim’s family “on several occasions”, was the one who threatened to kill President Luis Lacalle Pou in April 2021.
At the end of that month, the man filmed a video that he shared on his social networks, in which he said: “I want to kill the president.” In another video, which he also shared on networks, he expressed his support for an anti-vaccination demonstration that had been called in Maldonado. For this case, this man was accused of threats and injuries and had to comply with precautionary measures, such as do not approach the president, establish an address and do not leave the country.
Now he was charged with the 2019 murder for a crime of “aggravated homicide as perpetrator,” said Interior. The man must serve preventive detention until October 20, while he awaits the trial against him.
