SANTO DOMINGO.– A man dedicated to motorcycle theft was sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of stripping another citizen of his vehicle in an incident that occurred in Jarabacoa, La Vega province.
The sentence was handed down by the Second Collegiate Court of Jarabacoa against Juan Agustín Hernández, also known as Ángel, Turán or Durán.
The Public Ministry, represented by the chief prosecutor of Jarabacoa, Viviana Mena Paulino, presented the evidence that supported the accusation, which was implemented by the prosecutor Scarling Polanco Núñez.
Details of the event
According to the file, the robbery occurred on April 29, 2024, around 8:00 p.m., on the General José Durán highway (Jarabacoa–Constanza section).
The defendant chased the victim to the vicinity of his residence, where he stripped him of the motorcycle he was riding on.

During the robbery, the victim suffered trauma to the left malar region, abrasions to the right hand and trauma to the right hip, injuries certified in the definitive medical-legal report number 2024-197, dated April 30, 2024.
Court decision
Judges Martín De La Mota, Fernando Abreu and Ariella Cedano accepted the accusation presented by the Public Ministry and convicted Hernández of aggravated robbery, establishing that the event occurred on a public street, at night and caused bodily harm to the victim.
The court ordered that the convicted person serve his sentence at the El Pinito Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), in La Vega.
The conviction was supported by documentary, expert, illustrative and testimonial evidence, which demonstrated the criminal responsibility of the accused.
