In Sardinata, Norte de Santander, a man murdered his ex-partner, María Belén Suárez Meza, by shooting her four times. After committing the crime, he fled in a vehicle.

The tragic event occurred at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6, when, according to initial statements to local media, a man was apparently with María Belén and, after a heated argument, shot her four times, ending her life.
Her former partner, Jhon Mauricio Maldonado Serrano, is identified as the alleged perpetrator of this crime.
The community tried to help Belen by taking her to San Martín Hospital, but unfortunately it was too late.
Captured after failed escape
After committing the crime, Maldonado fled in a vehicle, later crashing into a tractor-trailer in the La San Juana sector. He was taken to the San Martín hospital, where he was greeted with indignation by the victim’s family and friends, demanding justice.
The Norte de Santander Police, after being alerted of the incident, activated a ‘Lock Plan’ to capture the aggressor.
Colonel Carlos Esteban, deputy commander of the department’s police, said that strategic closures were made to locate Maldonado. This is why the arrest was made quickly after the accident.

The community, in an act of rejection of violence against women, held a march in the main park of Sardinata, demanding justice for María Belén.
