After meeting the requirements of having a bond guaranteeing 2 million pesos, it was confirmed that the coordinator of Beta Groups in Chihuahua, Juan Carlos Meza Cumplido, can face in freedom the criminal proceedings against him for his alleged responsibility in the death of 40 migrants and the injuries of 27 foreigners in the fire that occurred at the immigration station in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, on March 27, 2023.

According to the court ruling issued by Juan José Chávez Montes, a district judge specializing in the Accusatory Criminal System of the Federal Criminal Justice Center in Ciudad Juárez, the justice administrator accepted that the defendant and his defense complied with the requirement of presenting a guarantee of 2 million pesos required to grant the change of precautionary measure and face the criminal process in freedom.

It was also reported that during the hearing the contract signed with the company Sistemas ACAO and Elisa Burgos Ortega for the placement of an electronic bracelet was exhibited.

The defense also handed over Meza Cumplido’s US visa and passport to the Attorney General’s Office. Therefore, the judge ordered the immediate release of the accused. It was ordered that he must appear before the supervisory authority for precautionary measures and conditional suspension of the process in Ciudad Juárez.
