Man arrested for trying to smuggle explosives on US plane

Washington (EFE).- A 40-year-old man was arrested this week. It was after he allegedly attempted to carry explosives in a suitcase that he checked in for a domestic flight in USA.

Marc Muffley, 40, was arrested Monday night, the same day authorities found explosives in the bag you checked in for an Allegiant airline trip. The trip was from Allentown (Pennsylvania, USA) to Orlando (Florida, USA), US media reported on Wednesday.

Muffley’s luggage set off the security alarm. This prompted airport agents to review its contents, according to court documents.

Inside the suitcase they found a circular object “three inches” (7cm) in diameter hidden in the lining of the suitcase. Also a “butane canister, a lighter, a pipe with residues of white powder, and a cordless drill. Also two differential switches glued with black tape.

Security members of the Lehigh Valley airport (Allentown, Pennsylvania) contacted the FBI for assistance. Also to identify what they believed to be explosives inside the suitcase that Muffley checked. This is ensured by documents filed with a federal court.

An FBI agent arrived, went to the scene, checked the luggage with X-rays and found a type of “dust” consistent with “commercial fireworks.” The object had two types of wick attached, one to act in short and another to do it in a delayed way.

The American, who remains under arrest, was taken into custody “without incident” at his home in Lansford. This was less than an hour from the airport, and he is now facing two charges for trying to smuggle explosives onto a plane. This can lead to a penalty of at least 10 years in jail. EFE
