The Municipality of Maldonado, led by the nationalist Enrique Antía, installed 55 new road cameras to apply photo fines to drivers who commit traffic violations, such as speeding or illegal turns, according to what the general director of Traffic of the commune, Juan Pígola.
The hierarch asserted that stage two of this plan, which contemplated the installation of 45 road control devices, either to monitor speed or for traffic lights, is almost at 90%.
“The fine is generated by someone who does not comply with a regulation. [Los controladores] They are set to correct behavior. They shouldn’t even exist; we should contemplate the fact that if a sign says 60, you cannot go above 60”, she maintained in statements to Montevideo Portal.
They will be installed on the Punta del Este promenade, on Aparicio Saravia street, on Wilson Ferreira Aldunate street, in the area of La Capuera, Solanas, in Playa Hermosa and on Route 39, as well as in other places in the Fernandino department.
For now, the fines will be applied to vehicles with a Uruguayan patent, and they will be charged to the next collection of the vehicle license. On the other hand, vehicles with a foreign patent, such as those arriving from Argentina or Brazil, will not be subject to fines, so they will remain free.
