Majority of the Participation Council seeks to remove its president

Sofía Almeida es presidenta del Consejo de Participación Ciudadana y Control Social.

The continuity of Sofía Almeida in the presidency of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (Cpccs) is in doubt.

The proposal was presented this Friday, January 28, 2022 by the counselor Francisco Bravo. He indicates that the Chairwoman of Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS), Sofia Almeidahas suspended “without reason the sessions of the organism” and points to lack of transparency in the processes of designation of the authorities in charge of the body.

Almeida responded and said that the plenary of the Council does not have among its attributions the removal of the authorities and that any such decision is in the hands of the National Assembly. He added that the most who seeks his way out is “badly advised”.

On twitter, Almeida He warned that “certain councilors” would be breaking the law and that they are trying to occupy the presidency so that the contests are “rigged from this space.”

The institutional crisis of the CPCCS is at its most complex point. There is a confrontation between a new majority made up of Ibeth Estupiñán, Hernán Ulloa, Francisco Bravo and María Fernanda Rivadeneira and the minority that supports Almeidawhich is also made up of David Rosero and Juan José Dávila.

Since the beginning of the year there have been clashes over the approval of regulations for the appointment of the new Superintendent of Companies and the Comptroller General of the State. There are also delays in the partial renewal of the National Electoral Council and even the body’s budget and the Annual Contracting Program were not approved within the terms determined by law.
