Brazilian airline Gol, one of the most important in Brazil and Latin America, could soon begin flying to Havana.
According to information provided by the Colombian Civil Aeronautics, Gol has requested a new international route to connect Brasilia with the Cuban capital, which will make a stopover at Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport.
The petition “is based on the fifth freedom of the air, which allows airlines to disembark passengers, cargo and mail at any point along the route, which benefits the company and travelers by facilitating connections,” refers Latin Press (PL).
The airline already uses this right on its route between Brazil, Colombia and Argentina, the report adds.

According to the report, Gol would fly to Havana from the Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport in Brasilia, with seven weekly frequencies.
For its Havana flight, the Brazilian airline will use Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, with a capacity of 186 seats distributed in 30 business class seats and 156 economy class seats.
The information does not specify when this new route could begin.
With a history still young – it began operations at the beginning of this century – Gol travels to different destinations in the American continent and accounts for more than a third of the domestic market in Brazil.
If it begins to fly to Havana with a stopover in Colombia, it would join the airlines in the region that already fly to the island, such as Copa Airlines, or plan to do so in the future, as Mexican Aviationwhile others have stopped doing so or maintain stand by its restart, as Colombian Avianca.
