Since the “Honor Colorado” movement (whose leader is former president Horacio Cartes), only one legislator has come out to rule on the resolution of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ). Deputy Derlis Maidana, who aspires to the Senate for the next legislative period, affirmed that Cartes has every right to occupy a seat in the Upper House since he is authorized to do so.
The legislator pointed out that the constitutional chamber of the Court made, in this case, an admissibility judgment in the first place. In other words, it has not yet ruled on the merits of the matter. “Horacio Cartes was elected, proclaimed, at the BCP he was given his certificate that enabled him to be a national senator. So regardless of the previous discussions he is an elected and proclaimed senator”, he maintained. Regarding a possible extradition request, he stated that he cannot respond. And he maintained that his lawyers are taking care of it. “It seems to me that the fact that he agrees to study does not mean that it is already issued on the merits,” he insisted.
