Magín J. Díaz is the new Minister of Finance

Magín J. Díaz es el nuevo ministro de Hacienda

President Luis Abinader appointed Decree 386-25 to the economist and academic Magín J. Díaz as the new Minister of Finance, replacing José Manuel (Jochy) Vicente, who presented resignation to the position.

Díaz has a trajectory of more than two decades in the design, execution and evaluation of public policies, both nationally and internationally. He began his public career as a secretary of state of finance in the government of President Hipólito Mejía. Subsequently, he served as Vice Minister of Fiscal Policy (2012–2013) and Public Credit (2013–2016), being one of the key technical figures in the processes of reforms and in negotiations with multilateral organizations. He was also general director of Internal Taxes between 2016 and 2020.

In addition to his experience in executive functions, Díaz has been an advisor to institutions such as the Ministry of Economy, the General Directorate of Customs, the Superintendence of Banks and the National Congress, as well as the Dominican Corporation of State Electric Companies (CDEEE), where it contributed in issues of macroeconomic sustainability and tax regulation.

At the international level, he has been the World Bank and Inter -American Development Bank (IDB), and has advised Governments of El Salvador, Honduras, Belize and Uruguay in macroeconomic tax and political reforms. His academic profile is equally outstanding: he is an industrial engineer (Magna Cum Laude) for Intec, he has masters in economics and political science from universities such as Chicago, Salamanca and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and currently directs the School of Economics of the PUCMM Economy.

The designation of Magín J. Díaz seeks to consolidate and give continuity to fiscal stability, as well as the continuation in the modernization of the tax system and promote a culture of efficiency, transparency and sustainability in the management of public resources.
