Santo Domingo.- The Magaly Pineda Feminist Forum expressed its regret and solidarity with Lovelie Joseph Raphaelmother of Stephora Anne-Mircie Josephan 11-year-old girl who died on November 14 during a school trip at the Leonardo Da Vinci Institute, in Santiago.
In a statement, the organization criticized the “lack of transparency and slowness“in the investigation, more than two weeks after the fact.
The Forum pointed out that, according to publicly disseminated information, Stephora had been a victim of harassment due to skin color and nationalityand that versions are circulating that point to a possible hate crime. The entity requested a rigorous investigation into the alleged participation of other students, without privileges or influences.
The organization criticized the “institutional abandonment” towards the mother and the lack of responses from the school and the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office, which it interprets as part of the structural racism and anti-Haitianism present in the country.
The Forum demands immediate clarification of the case, the publication of the results of the investigation, the institutional responsibility of the Leonardo Da Vinci Institute and Hacienda Los Caballos and justice for the family.
“The Magaly Pineda Feminist Forum joins the cry for justice. Stephora’s life matters. Black lives matter. Haitian lives matter,” the note concludes.
