The government of Nicolas Maduro has formally requested to the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) the withdrawal of Venezuelan nationality to Yon Goicoechealeader of Voluntad Popular.
A statement from the Ministry of Interior Relations, Justice and Peace says that the action is based on the duty of every Venezuelan to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to article 130 of the Constitution and the Liberator Simón Bolívar Organic Law.
Cause of the request: “call for invasion”
The request is based on the “public call” which, according to the government, Goicoechea would have carried out to:
- Request and cooperate with foreign forces in order to achieve the military invasion and occupation from Venezuela.
- Pursue and exterminate to officials from the different security forces and the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB).
- Promote the mass murder of Venezuelans who are part of the movements and organizations of Popular Power.
The Ministry argues that these actions constitute a “treason” and complicity with foreign powers.
Administrative measures in progress
The authorities have been instructed to immediately proceed with the necessary administrative measures. Specifically, the Chancellery and the Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Immigration (Saime) must take the corresponding measures for the deletion of all documents that identifies Yon Goicoechea as a Venezuelan citizen.
The Venezuelan State, the statement indicates, ratifies its commitment to the defense of national sovereignty and peaceinspired by the thoughts of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, and positions itself firmly “against all forms of surrender, betrayal or complicity with foreign powers.”
