The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, will travel to Russia on May 9, the day in which the victory over Nazism in the Great Patria War (1941-1945) is celebrated, communicated on Saturday the Foreign Minister of Russia, Serguéi Lavrov.
“We appreciate that President Maduro is with us on victory day,” said Lavrov during a meeting with the Chancellor of Venezuela, Yván Gil, apart from the Antalya diplomatic forum.
In March, the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, during a conversation by videoconference, invited his Venezuelan counterpart to Moscow for the commemoration of this historical achievement.
“I would love to see him in Moscow in the celebrations of May 9 on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patria War,” said the president.
On May 9, the commemorative parade of victory will be held in the Red Square in Moscow. Many leaders and official representatives of the countries of the world were invited to the event.
Among those who are expected to attend the commemoration are the presidents of China, Xi Jinping; from Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva; of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic; of Belarus, Alexánder Lukashenko; from Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel; as well as the prime ministers of India, Narendra Modi; and Slovakia, Robert Fico.
The great historical role played by the Soviet Union as winner about the fascists cost him inconceivable losses. Thus, 26.6 million people died in the bloody contest. In addition, all the families of the USSR suffered huge physical and moral damage.
The role of Soviet citizens in victory over Nazism cannot be underestimated. Among the events that meant inflection points can be mentioned the battle of Stalingrad, the counteroffensive near Moscow, the battle of Kursk, the lifting of the Leningrad site, among others.
On May 2, 1945, the Red Army completely seized the German capital during Berlin’s strategic offensive operation. On May 8, 1945, the representatives of the German High Command signed the unconditional surrender act.
