Maduro: we will continue to defend the historic Geneva Agreement

Maduro: Chávez left a legacy to confront imperialism

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, reiterated this Thursday the historic struggle of Guayana Esequiba, attached to the Geneva Agreement.

“Venezuelan men and women will continue the tireless and firm fight to defend respect for the historic Geneva Agreement and the territoriality of our dignified nation. The truth is with us. The Essequibo is Venezuela!”, assured the Head of State on his account on the social network Twitter.

The national president added to the publication the Official Communiqué of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela that celebrates the incidental sentence of the ICJ, which validates the arguments and allegations put forward by the country in relation to the case of the illegal and fraudulent conduct of the United Kingdom in the territorial dispute with Guayana Esequiba.

Likewise, the document reaffirms the Geneva Agreement as the only valid mechanism before the ICJ, to resolve the territorial controversy.

For his part, the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino, also spoke to express “From the FANB we reaffirm our commitment to guarantee the territorial integrity of Venezuela. We have historical and legal reasons and all the will of the Venezuelan State to continue defending our legitimate claim on Guayana Esequiba. The Essequibo is ours!”

Earlier, the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, in the company of Foreign Minister Yván Gil and Defense Minister, Padrino López, read the aforementioned statement from the Government of Venezuela that ratifies its adherence to the Geneva Agreement signed in 1966 to settle the territorial dispute over the territory of Guayana Esequiba.

The text highlights that Venezuela celebrates that the incidental sentence issued by the Court this Thursday recognizes that the illegal and fraudulent conduct of the United Kingdom of Great Britain can be reviewed.

Also, that the sentence reflects the existence and validity of the Geneva Agreement of 1966, the only valid instrument to settle the territorial controversy.

Therefore, Venezuela will exhaustively evaluate the implications of the incidental decision and will adopt all the measures at its disposal to defend its legitimate rights and territorial integrity.
