Nicolás Maduro assured this Thursday the 27th that 82% of Venezuelans are “willing” to defend the country armed against an attack from the United States, amid tensions over the US military deployment in the Caribbean since mid-August.
“In Venezuela, there is no threat or aggression that frightens our people, nor that takes us by surprise… If we have to take up arms, we will do so and we would have a destiny of triumph and dignity,” Maduro said in a speech recorded for the anniversary of Military Aviation and broadcast by Venezuelan Television.
He also said he was “confident” of victory if his administration declared Venezuela a “republic in arms.” “We have reached a great national consensus that is the support for the union of the entire Venezuelan nation (…) this arises as a result of an intense situation,” he highlighted.

According to Maduro, who said that these figures come from “highly professional measurements,” more than 94% of Venezuelans reject foreign threats of military aggression. “It is not statistics, for us it is a historical command to defend the homeland and guarantee victory, always the victory of independence.”
He also pointed out the “fascist extremism” of wanting to “stain national life, wants to stain the name of our military institution… But the only thing they have achieved is that today we can say that our institutions, our Bolivarian National Armed Forces, our Bolivarian Military Aviation and our people today shine more for their glories and capabilities.”
