The US Treasury sanctioned 16 Venezuelan officials on September 12 for participating in the “electoral fraud” of July 28. The president said that these measures “will not be able to divide the powerful civil-military union.”
President Nicolás Maduro responded on Friday, September 13, to the sanctions imposed by the United States against 16 Venezuelan officials. In a speech, he described them as “ridiculous” and a repeat of the “same mistakes of the past.”
“Yesterday, with their ridiculous sanctions, the gringos attempted to adopt a hostile attitude that repeats the mistakes they have already made against Venezuela. They will not be able to divide the powerful civil-military union as one people,” said Maduro.

The United States government sanctioned 16 Venezuelan officials on September 12 for “their responsibility in the electoral fraud” of July 28 and the subsequent repression of citizens who rejected the results of those elections in which Nicolás Maduro was announced as the winner.
Maduro added, “The imperial government of the United States attacked with so-called sanctions and believes that they are intimidating public officials, they believe that they are blackmailing the officers and soldiers of our National Armed Forces. Their actions are decorations for the patriots who love Venezuela and who will not surrender under any threat.”
