Trump declared this Wednesday that he is preparing attacks against drug traffickers who operate on land, while Maduro assures that he seeks their overthrow
Nicolás Maduro said on October 22 that Venezuela has 5,000 Russian-made portable anti-aircraft missiles to defend the country when it denounces a military threat from the United States.
After deploying a flotilla of destroyers, a submarine and ships with special forces in the Caribbean, on September 2, the United States began a series of unprecedented attacks against what it calls “narcoterrorist” boats coming from Venezuela.
Maduro has called these operations a threat and siege, and assures that they seek his overthrow.
«Any military force in the world knows the power of the Igla-S and Venezuela has nothing more and nothing less than 5,000 Igla-S in key anti-aircraft defense positions to guarantee peace,” said Maduro in a television event, accompanied by members of the military high command.

The Igla-S is a portable air defense system designed to shoot down low-altitude aircraft, helicopters and drones. It is disposable, it does not recharge once fired.
The missile has already been used in military exercises ordered by Maduro in response to the US deployment.
Trump declared this Wednesday that he is preparing attacks against drug traffickers who operate on land. “We will hit them very hard when they come overland, they haven’t experienced it yet,” he said.
Maduro has denounced that Venezuela faces “the most lethal military threat” in history.
