Maduro says that the vote in Cuba was a “heroic demonstration of the people”

MIAMI, United States. — The Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro described as “virtuous electoral day” the votes held this Sunday in Cuba, in which, according to preliminary results announced by the island’s regime, “75.92% of the electoral roll exercised their right to vote.”

“The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of the Venezuelan People and Government, congratulates the Cuban People and President Miguel Díaz-Canel, for the successful day to elect the National Assembly of Popular Power, held today, March 26, 2023”, says a release issued by Caracas this Sunday.

For the Chavista ruler, the votes this Sunday on the island were a “heroic demonstration of the People of Martí and Fidel” that had “the overwhelming majority participation of millions of Cubans.”

“From the Bolivarian Homeland we jubilantly celebrate the heroic demonstration of the People of Martí and Fidel, with a forceful majority participation of millions of Cuban men and women in a virtuous electoral day, with which the firm and vigorous support is ratified once again. to the Revolutionary Project, example, inspiration and guide for the Peoples of Our Latin America-Caribbean and the world”, the text states.

In this sense, Maduro affirmed that his regime will maintain its “fraternal and solidarity commitment” with the Cuban people.

“We reiterate to the people of Cuba our fraternal and supportive commitment to the brotherly relationship between our peoples, whose historical destiny is to walk together through the ages hoisting the same flags for a better world,” the statement concluded.

According to the National Electoral Council (CEN), an entity subordinated to the guidelines of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), of the 8,120,072 registered voters, 6,164,876 exercised their right to vote, numbers that have been questioned by independent organizations. , which, in turn, pointed out irregularities in the voting process.

After the “electoral” day, the platforms Observers of Electoral Rights, the Cuban Commission for Electoral Defense and Citizen Observers of Electoral Processes indicated that these votes have been the “most irregular” on the Island since 1976.

These organizations maintained that the data offered by the CEN “do not seem to correspond to the rigorous independent observation, with the spontaneous testimonies of citizens and with the profusion of images, all indices in the direction of showing the low citizen participation in voting throughout across the country.”
