Nicolás Maduro congratulated the mayors of Baruta and Chacao, while saying that this victory represents “the day of the birth of a new Venezuelan opposition, which can govern well from the 50 mayors who have won”
Nicolás Maduro said the early morning of this July 28 that the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) obtained 285 of the 335 mayors in dispute in the municipal elections, which were held on Sunday, July 27, together with a popular consultation for youth.
“Today, July 28, 2025, we can say that we have obtained a resounding victory, historical for the forces of the Bolivarian Revolution,” said Maduro from the balcony of the headquarters of the Mayor’s Office of Libertador, to the center of Caracas, where he was accompanied by Cilia Flores, the PSUV directive and the mayor reelecta Carmen Meléndez.

According to the official, the PSUV took with the mayorships of 23 of the 24 state capitals, less in San Carlos (Cojedes) where Alexander Mireles was elected with the regional party Vamos Vamos Cojedes, the same organization that supported the only opposition governor elected on May 25: Alberto Galíndez.
«About 50 opponents have won the Mayor’s Office, I congratulate them (…) My call to continuous work for us to continue in harmony, I call them respect, to communal power, to the communal circuits, to the communes. Now comes tremendous work because the people voted, ”said Maduro, although the CNE only awarded 304 mayors in his newsletter last 11:30 pm on Sunday.
The official congratulated the mayors of Baruta and Chacao, while saying that this opposition victory represents “the day of the birth of a new Venezuelan opposition, which can govern well from the 50 mayors who have won.”
In addition, he asked those mayors to “cease conspiracies, the call to foreign military intervention, ceases to US interventionism, ceases the call to sanctions and we advance together to an integral recovery of urban spaces, of the economy in general, of the productive economy, of housing, of the right to the health of our people.”
In the last municipal elections, the PSUV and the Great Patriotic Pole obtained 212 of the 335 mayors in dispute. That correlation changed to 216 with the resignations, deaths and “talanquera jumps” of the mayors. The Democratic Unit (MUD) table, which participated in the 2021 elections, obtained 58 mayors; while the Democratic Alliance achieved 38 mayors and neighborhood force 10.
In this municipal election (with 82.45% of tables transmission), “more than 44% of active voters” participated, according to loving, which “projected to 100% participation represents 6,273,531 voters and electors.” But when taking the electoral record enabled for these elections, the real participation would be 29%.
The agency still does not explain what it refers to the term “active voters”, which it has used since the last elections of May 25.
