Maduro rejects interference from governments that seek to re-establish the Lima Group

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro rejected the interventionist statements of some governments in the region, and warned that these countries “intend to revitalize and refound the Lima Group”

“These right-wing governments that intend to revitalize and refound the Lima Group come out to defend criminals (…) to say that there is political persecution; and what do you do with people who go out and burn and destroy a metro station? Are they rewarded?” the head of state asked this Friday during a work day held at the Metrobús workshops in La Paz.

“Justice is what the people want, severe justice, and there will be justice against all those intellectually and materially responsible for the criminal assault that was attempted in Venezuela on July 29, 30 and 31,” he said.

He also condemned the violent expressions of the shock groups that tried to destabilize the country, also known as ‘comanditos’: “They were all trained, they were all paid, they were all drugged (…) and when they came out of the ‘drugfest’ they were in, they all cried and asked for forgiveness,” he denounced and stated that they were all captured.

“They all gave their statements: who hired them, how much they were paid and who gave them the order to destroy. They destroyed 253 public safety modules and five metrobus stations,” he added.

This Friday, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry issued a statement strongly condemning the recent statement issued by the governments of Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, the United States, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay in which they “grossly and insolently” seek to continue violating international law, committing an unacceptable act of interference in matters that only concern Venezuelans.
