President Nicolás Maduro reiterated his position on the recent statements by his Mexican and Brazilian counterparts regarding the electoral process in Venezuela, and said that his government deeply respects the institutions of those countries, especially the judiciary, which has guaranteed the functioning of democracies in those nations.
Maduro recalled that the ratification of President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva was carried out by the Supreme Court of Brazil, “and the Supreme Court of Justice of Brazil issued a ruling and ratified the victory of President Lula Da Silva. Holy Word! My respects to the institutions of Brazil,” he said.
Regarding this case, he recalled that former President Jair Bolsonaro went to Miami in January 2023, and from there he organized a wave of violent protests that led to an attempted coup d’état, and that attacked several institutions of the Brazilian State, including the Planalto Palace, the seat of the presidency. In this sense, he made a comparison with the national right, which has been leading violent actions from abroad for years.
“We have opportunely condemned this attempt to seize power… more or less the fascist current, which was poisoned by the fascist currents of Venezuela in 2002,” declared the president.
In response to statements by the governments of Mexico and Brazil, which have called for the publication of the minutes or for the repetition of the elections, which has been rejected by the national government as interventionist, President Maduro said that he supports the work done by the Supreme Courts of those countries in defense of democracy.
We must celebrate that the higher courts, the supreme courts and the institutions of these large countries, such as Mexico and Brazil, have guaranteed the functioning of democracy. And if this is the case there, then so be it here too. Constitution, law, order and justice,” he said.
