Maduro receives Vatican representatives in Miraflores

According to the Presidential Press, one of the points to be discussed at the meeting is to discuss the canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández

On the afternoon of this Saturday, November 12, President Nicolás Maduro received Monsignor Edgar Peña Parra, who acts as substitute for General Affairs of the Vatican Secretariat of State, at the Miraflores Palace.

The meeting, held in office 1 of the Presidential Palace, was attended by the first combatant (as the wife of the Venezuelan president calls herself) Cilia Flores; the charge d’affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in Venezuela, Reverend Monsignor Ignazio Ceffalia; and the Minister of the Office of the Presidency, Jorge Márquez, among other government authorities.

According to the Presidential Press, one of the points to be discussed in Maduro’s meeting with the representative of the Holy See was the canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández.

The Venezuelan doctor was beatified on April 30, 2022, in Caracas. The act was carried out in a reduced ceremony due to the covid-19 pandemic, so only 150 people attended the San Juan Bautista de La Salle church. After his beatification, part of his remains were sent to the Vatican along with other character objects.
