Maduro receives the credential letters of the new ambassador of Portugal

The national president Nicolás Maduro expressed through his account on the social network Twitter after receiving the accreditation documents that both nations maintain “ties of brotherhood, cooperation and shared support”

The Venezuelan ruler Nicholas Maduroreceived on Monday the credentials of the new Portuguese ambassador to the country, João Pedro de Vasconcelos Fins do Lago, who replaces Carlos de Sousa Amaro, in office since 2017.

The Portuguese diplomat was received at the Miraflores Palace, seat of the Presidency, by the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Carlos Faría, in a ceremony broadcast by the state-owned channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

According to a statement later released by the Ministry of Communications on its website, with the arrival of Vasconcelos at the Portuguese Embassy in Venezuela, relations between the South American and European nations are strengthened.

“Already accredited in the country, the historic bilateral relations between both nations are strengthened, which have been characterized by solidarity, friendship, cooperation and joint work in favor of both peoples,” the institution said.

Vasconcelos has a law degree from the Portuguese Catholic University, in Porto, and a diploma in Advanced European Administrative Studies, from the College of Europe.
