President Nicolás Maduro received Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, at the Miraflores Palace on the afternoon of this Friday, January 27.
Türk, who arrived in the country at noon on Thursday, January 26, had a meeting with Maduro and other officials of the Chavista administration scheduled on his agenda, as well as meetings with human rights organizations and opposition leaders.
The visit responds to an invitation made by Maduro himself, who tries to clean up his image before international organizations and present his “advances” in terms of respect for human rightsafter receiving observations on repeated occasions from the previous UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet.
After an hour of conversation behind closed doors, the UN official said goodbye to the Chavista president and left the Miraflores Palace. Neither Maduro nor Türk offered statements after the meeting, nor did they specify the issues discussed during the meeting..
Before the meeting with Maduro, the official also held meetings with the director of the National Assembly (AN) elected in 2020 and chaired by Jorge Rodríguez, as reported by the parliamentarian through his social media. On the same day, he also spoke with the ombudsman, Alfredo Ruiz Angulo.

The day before, Türk was received at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía by several officials of the Maduro administration, including the Vice Minister for Multilateral Issues, Rubén Darío Molina, and the executive secretary of the National Human Rights Council, Larry Devoe.
