More than two months after the tragedy, hopelessness predominates in Las Tejerías. Hundreds of victims continue to be crammed into shelters despite promises by the Chavista government of relocation through the Gran Misión Vivienda Venezuela, not to mention “urban reorganization.”
A report on Las Tejerías published by The Voice of America (VOA) portrays the current lives of the families affected by the tragedy. He stresses that the Government has ordered gangs of officials to tour the population to carry out censuses that allow the recording of needs, but the residents complain of exclusion.
“They have not taken me into account for that census. I ask my president Maduro to help me, because there were two houses that I lost, my daughter’s and mine, and there were seven people who were on the street, we have nowhere to live,” claims Mardelys Ruiz, 51.
