Nicolás Maduro said that he received the communication from the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, which gave organic character to the new law expressly created to sanction with sentences of up to 30 years those who support or request sanctions in the country
The ruler Nicolás Maduro asked this Friday, November 29, to promulgate the Simón Bolívar Law approved by the National Assembly (AN), which establishes prison sentences of up to 30 years, the maximum amount in Venezuela.
“Having received today the communication from the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), which gave it organic character, I proceed to sign the law that does bear the name of the Liberator Simón Bolívar in the name of the people of Venezuela and their right to peace and happiness. Signed, endorsed and executed from this moment,” said Maduro during the International Conference in Solidarity with Palestine.
The new law It is created in response to an instrument that bears a similar name: Bolívar Law, approved on November 18 by the United States House of Representatives, which attempts to “cut off the financial lifeline” to Maduro, which has upset the administration. In fact, this Friday the president called it a “junk law.”
The AN of 2020 sanctioned this week the Libertador Simón Bolívar Organic Law, which among other things contemplates imprisonment of up to 30 years or political disqualification for up to 60 years against natural and legal personsnational or foreign, who “request” and “support” the imposition of sanctions against “citizens, State institutions or authorities.”
The norm, which consists of 23 articles, a repealing provision and a final one, was approved in the ordinary session on November 28. After the vote, the president of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, ordered that the instrument be sent to the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice for review and subsequent promulgation. In just one day the TSJ gave its approval for the new law, expressly created, is finally approved by the AN.
Maduro also referred to the opponent Edmundo González Urrutia. “We crushed the Guaidó project, so much so that they were left breathless, that is the true hidden side of the politics of deception,” he said in relation to the interim government of Juan Guaidó, who was recognized as president of Venezuela by several countries in 2019.
