The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reported this Monday on national television that before the end of the year, 125 mercenaries of more than 15 nationalities were captured in our country, who had the objective of disturbing the peace and attacking the lives of senior officials.
In this sense, the head of state said that they were waiting for the arrival of these terrorists, since the Argentine Government had given signs that this would happen. “We were waiting for those people (…) we have good intelligence, they came from the south of America with specific plans to attack Vice President Delcy Rodríguez,” he said.
He denied that the Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo, captured entering Venezuela, has entered the country to visit his family, since that official has his wife in Argentina. “The gendarme has his wife in Argentina (…) the Argentine Government is involved in disturbing the peace in Venezuela,” he indicated.
He congratulated the intelligence and security forces for dismantling this new international attempt to alter national peace, and urged them not to let their guard down in the face of the latent threat of imperialism and its affected governments.
“We are proud of the military, police and intelligence personnel (…) I am proud of the military and police personnel, because they have guaranteed peace and tranquility to our country, in the face of national and international fascist threats. Guard up and ready for permanent combat,” he indicated.
The sending of Argentine gendarmes
The Sectoral Vice President of Politics, Citizen Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, said that the Argentine Government announced, in the month of March 2024, that it would send a group of gendarmes to Venezuela.
He added that “they are fulfilling what they promised, but they did not expect that our intelligence would work the way it did.”
He said that “this group of people had the mission of attacking Vice President Delcy Rodríguez. Today they are all detained and brought to justice.”
President Maduro referred to this threat, that “the closer right-wing groups get to fascists like Milei, the people reject them,” in reference to the approach of former candidate Edmundo González Urrutia to the Argentine president.
He stressed that the Venezuelan people are “cured of fears” and prepared to move forward in building their future.
President Maduro also referred to the need for “spiritual, psychological and political immunity” against the campaigns of hate and division that seek confrontation between Venezuelans.
