The Secretary General of OPEC has been in Venezuela since Monday, October 7 to “further strengthen the ties of cooperation that Venezuela has” with the organization, said Vice President Delcy Rodríguez. The president of the state-owned PDVSA, Héctor Obregón, has said that the oil-producing country “actively advocates for stability and global energy balance, through unity and harmonization of shared criteria.”

The ruler Nicolás Maduro met this Tuesday, October 8, with the Secretary General of OPEC, Haitham Al-Ghais, to review the country’s cooperation agreements with the organization of oil exporters.

From the meeting, which took place in La Casona as reported presidential pressno details were revealed. OPEC Secretary met the day before with the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, to evaluate issues related to the international energy market, among other points on the work agenda.

During the meeting, Rodríguez ratified Venezuela’s commitment to “continue contributing to the stability of the oil market in times of important challenges for the world economy,” according to the state-run PDVSA, whose president, Héctor Obregón, was also at the meeting.

Recently, Obregón said that the country “actively advocates for stability and global energy balance, through unity and harmonization of shared criteria.”

Venezuela’s oil production fell to 927,000 barrels per day (bdp) in August, that is, 1,000 barrels below what was recorded in the month of July, according to official figures collected in the latest OPEC report.

The nation, with the largest proven reserves of crude oil, thus stopped the sustained increase in its oil production that it recorded in the months of April, May, June and July, a period during which it rose from 878,000 bpd to 928,000 bpd.
