The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, from the funeral chapel in the National Assembly, paid honors to Isaías Rodríguez, former attorney general and former vice president of the Republic, who has passed into immortality.
“We are paying due tribute to a sincere man with a clean soul, a man who deserves this and much more, from the protocol room of the country’s Legislative Branch, the Venezuelan Public Power and the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, we pay tribute to Isaías Rodríguez , who will forever be remembered as the brave prosecutor of the people of Venezuela,” he said.
During the posthumous tributes, the Dignitary awarded the Post Mortem Liberators and Liberators of Venezuela order in its first class to Doctor Isaías Rodríguez, as well as the replica of the victorious saber from the Battle of Carabobo.
“To all his family members we want to reiterate in a very heartfelt way the condolences of all the authorities of the Venezuelan State, but especially, of the noble people who have always recognized Isaías as one of their best sons. “His legacy will live on in every corner of our country,” he said.
The head of state recognized his impeccable career as a lawyer, poet and defender of workers.
In this sense, Maduro highlighted that Isaías Rodríguez was the one who in decisive meetings contributed to the fact that the working class, the union movements and the people today had the rights that are enshrined in our Constitution.
Father José Numa, in his speech, quoted Psalm 121: “The Lord guards your comings and goings forever; Glory to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.” Numa highlighted that the life and commitment of Isaías Rodríguez leave a legacy of courage and dedication that will be remembered as an example of the fight for justice and sovereignty of Venezuela.
Isaías Rodríguez was a distinguished constituent in the 1999 and 2017 assemblies, and played a crucial role in the drafting of fundamental articles and chapters of the Venezuelan Constitution.
In December 1999 he was appointed as the first vice president of the Nation under the new Constitution, a position he would hold until the end of 2000. He also stood out in his performance as a diplomat in Spain and Italy, between the years 2009 – 2011 and 2011-2019. , respectively, contributing to strengthening international relations and Venezuelan foreign policy.
One of the most significant moments of his career was during the coup d’état of April 11, 2002, where Rodríguez became a firm voice against those who imposed themselves, through deception, on political power for 48 hours.
Rodríguez, with revolutionary cunning, called a press conference in which he would supposedly officially present his resignation, and at that moment he denounced the situation that was decisive in fueling the Bolivarian resistance and reestablishing institutionality.
