Maduro denounces alleged US aerial incursion before UN Security Council

Maduro representatives at the UN said that this US foray “not only represents a threat” to “national sovereignty, but also contravenes the norms of international law and the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation”

The Administration of Nicolás Maduro denounced this Friday, October 3, before the presidency of the UN Security Council, chaired in October by the Russian ally, the “illegal incursion of combat planes” from the United States about 75 kilometers from its coasts.

Through his telegram channel, Foreign Minister Yván Gil reported that the alternate representative of Venezuela against the United Nations, Joaquín Pérez, presented the Russian ambassador Vasili Nebenzia a document with details about “the American illegal incursion” this Thursday.

The Foreign Minister said that this incursion “not only represents a threat” to “national sovereignty, but also contravenes the norms of international law and the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.”

“This serious situation adds to the growing militarization of the Caribbean, which constitutes a clear harassment towards Venezuela,” Gil added, in reference to the naval deployment that the US maintains in the region to, as stated by the Trump administration, combat drug trafficking.

Maduro and his officials have insisted that it is a “threat” to promote a “regime change.”

The Maduro Administration said Thursday that it would file a complaint with the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, the Security Board and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in addition to the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), in order, he said, that “the necessary measures that prevent the repetition of these illegal and dangerous actions are adopted.”

Also, the Foreign and Defense Ministries They assured that Venezuela “will fully exercise their right to defense,” while demanding the US Secretary of War, Pete Hegesh, Cesar “immediately” what they described as a “reckless, adventurous and warrior position.”
